AN AMERICAN has believed they were seeing double when a quarter they found had a head on each side.

A coin expert has broken down how to know if it could be worth up to $41,975.

A person was left confused by a quarter without a tail; she wondered if it could be worth a lot of money.

So she went online for help to see if it could be worth any value.

A TikTok coin expert (@thecoinchannel) came to the rescue.

He explained what to look for and how to know when a quarter is potentially fake.

He used a quarter that had tails on both sides as an example.

It sold on auction for $41,975.

"Generally, two-headed coins or tailed coins will weigh the same as a real," said the expert.

But he spotted one larger inconsistency: there was discoloration on the sides.

"Those are known as 'trick coins' or 'magician coins' and sell for five bucks on eBay," He said.

However, he clarified real ones do exist, but they must be certified to ensure their value.

He suggested the website pcgs.com for any grading needs.

He offered the TikToker one last bit of advice.

"Don't quit your job just yet," the expert said.
