Trae Young injury update as Atlanta Hawks release worrying latest on finger problem with star needing surgery
ATLANTA Hawks star Trae Young is set to undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his finger.
According to the Hawks, Young tore a ligament in his left hand on Friday in a loss to the Toronto Raptors.
Young is expected to miss at least four weeks to recover from the procedure on Tuesday.
"During Friday's game, Trae Young suffered a left-hand injury. He underwent an MRI yesterday, which revealed a tear of the radial collateral ligament (RCL) in the fifth finger of his left hand," the Hawks' statement said.

"He will undergo surgery to repair the RCL on Tuesday and will be re-evaluated in four weeks."
There wasn't a clear moment during the Hawks' loss against the Raptors where Young could be seen sustaining his injury. He stayed in the game and played 35 minutes on Friday.

He was in the midst of an All-Star season, averaging 26.4 points and 10.8 assists per game.
The Hawks will miss Young sorely as their offense is based around his playmaking and scoring ability.
For now, Dejounte Murray will take over as the primary playmaker for the team.
Murray seems ready to take on the challenge ahead of him with Young sidelined.

"I don't really have too many excuses, its the NBA, you know I am going to continue to say the same thing over and over, its next man up," Murray said.
"Dudes work hard and wait for these opportunities, obviously not in that way, we want him to heal up and get back as soon as he can and get back to himself, that is always number one, health is everything.
"While he is out, next man up, that is it, there is opportunities for guys to show why they are in the NBA and why they belong in the NBA."
The Hawks are currently 25-32, sitting at the No. 10 seed in the Eastern Conference.
While their record isn't anything spectacular, they have a spot in the NBA Play-In tournament currently and are four games ahead of the Brooklyn Nets.
They will have to keep up a positive record without Young in the coming weeks to try to retain that playoff spot.
